Jack Heise - More than a Fan

Tuesday morning brought us terrible news - Jack Heise had passed away. Tuesdays were Jack's days to go to practice and ride on Ralph's golf cart and provide a few words of wisdom to the coach. His weekly letter to Ralph arrived on Wednesday - he must have penned it on Sunday after the Clemson game. His upbeat attitude and unwavering support for not only football, but all athletics and the University, merited Jack and Jackie, his wife of 60 years, the "Spirit of Maryland" Alumni Association award a couple of years ago.
The football team will honor Jack's memory by wearing his initials on their helmets. We will miss you Jack. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jackie and the whole Heise family.

Jack Heise "Mr. Maryland", a Maryland graduate and longtime supporter of Maryland Athletics, passed away on October 6. Jack was 84 years old. Jack was a retired attorney who lived in Bethesda with his wife Jackie. Jack was inducted into Maryland's Athletic Hall of Fame in the Fall of 2007, he was a basketball manager, as well as past president of the MClub and Terrapin Club. Jack was a constant presence at Maryland athletic events, attending contests home and away. Funeral services will take place Friday, October 9 at 11:00 am in the University of Maryland Chapel, College Park. Jack will forever be a part of the Terrapin family.

A GREAT and GRATEFUL Day

Saturday was a great day - a beautiful sunshine filled day - great weather for our football game against Clemson. We are very grateful to Applebee's Restaurant in College Park who hosted our delicious breakfast tailgate in front of Gossett for our loyal MGN football boosters! We are grateful for the exciting win over a very talented Clemson team. We showed our mettle in holding on for a 24-21 victory. We are grateful for our fans who meet the team each week at Terp Alley and who cheered our team to victory - including cheering so loudly that it caused several illegal procedure penalties for our opponents! We are particularly grateful for the hard work of our players and coaches who have overcome some adversity and built some confidence going into next week's game at Wake Forest. Hope to see some of you there!!
