Getting Those Player Interviews and a little more....

Baltimore Sun reporter, Jeff Barker approached me about a story after he remembered seeing me and my daughter, Kelley, after the BC game last year. Very tough loss as you all remember. It appeared today and I think he did a good job of telling the story. Hope you can enjoy it, too.

So Jeff caught up with me on Media Day this year when I was also interviewing several Terps for my blog feature. The MGN folks thought you'd enjoy this feature as you get to know a little more about our players than you might find in the online media guide. (Notice that I also have asked the boys to smile when I take their photo for their interview!!!)

Terps Take in a Movie

Coach Friedgen decided to give the team a break by canceling practice and taking them to the Movies! The team saw "District 9" - very interesting, yet crazy sci-fi flick. Lots of metaphors about good and evil - does show vitures of perserverance and loyalty. Not for youngsters - rated R. But it sure was a great opportunity to relax in the air conditioned atmosphere of the movie theater!

My good friend, Dale Helmer, was at Caddies in Bethesda with his great camera and took loads of photos - my battery actually became "exhausted" and I couldn't take as many as I would have liked! So Dale has come to the rescue. You might even be able to find yourself in one of these pictures since he took a bunch! Once again if you were there thanks for coming - if you renewed, joined, or upgraded we are very grateful!!! We appreciate all the support of our loyal fans!

Community Service: Tackling Middle Schoolers

The campus newspaper, The Diamondback, did an article about a program called MOST, Men of STrength Project. Dahlia Levin along with Kedrick Griffin and Neil Irvin, co-workers from Men Can Stop Rape, led the program.

With only two sacks and 17 tackles in his career, Terrapin defensive lineman Jared Harrell knows he's not a big-name player so far.

But last Friday, the outgoing senior was the star of the show as he and 14 of his teammates hosted a group of 10 middle school-aged boys from a Boys & Girls Club in downtown Washington, marking the end of a three-week mentorship program called the Men of Strength Project.

Media Day 2009

Monday upperclassmen and freshman joined together on the field for the 9th Annual Media Day under Coach Friedgen. Players had individual photos taken along with group photos by position and home state. A favorite photo is the one with the players who have a 3.0 GPA or better - quite a crowd - very proud!!! Gloria interviewed several of the players for an ongoing feature to help all meet our young men and learn a little more about them. Enjoy the photos she took. Also be watching for our first interviewee, 2nd team QB, Jamarr Robinson.

2009 Terp Freshmen Report!

Saturday was an exciting day for our new freshmen and their families and friends who were welcomed onto the team at a dinner held in the Young Dining Room at the Gossett Team House. Great bunch of guys! Each young man was asked to smile for their photo - since often their photos are so serious - this way we can all begin to learn the names of our new young men. Everyone was able to socialize and get to know other families. After a welcome by AD Debbie Yow and Coach Friedgen, the players came to the front of the room and one by one stated their name, hometown, position, and introduced the family and friends that were present. At that point Coach Friedgen said to the moms and families - it's time for you to kiss your boys goodbye - they are mine now!!!

MGN Event at Caddies

Thursday night, August 6th, the MGN and Terp fans packed Caddies in Bethesda for a chance to mix and mingle with our football staff and talk up the TERPS Football Program. The venue was absolutely jumping with excitement for the season. The line was literally out the door and only when folks left could others come in. Coach Friedgen addressed the group along with Coaches Franklin, Brown and Bankins. We picked up 15 new members including 3 MGN Gold upgrades!! We also want to thank MGN Gold member, Joe Rockhill, for his outright donation to the MGN! We are so appreciative of the folks who understand the needs of our football program and who are willing to help us with time, talent, and treasure!! Enjoy the photos from the event!

Gossett Staff Enjoys Crab Feast at the Steuarts

Saturday afternoon weather couldn't have cooperated more and the breeze off the Patuxent River made the Football Staff Party a great day! Families enjoyed the hospitality of Cal and Cynthia Steuart, MGN Gold members, who opened their beautiful home to us in Huntingtown, MD, for a day of family fun. Their lovely home is situated along the river with gorgeous views and along with the pool, a big hit for the kids, or those who feel like kids, the stress of the upcoming season was put away for the moment in a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. The Steuarts supplied steamed crabs, fried chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, and drinks, while folks brought food to share. It was a great day for the families and a wonderfully generous gesture by Cal and Cynthia! Thanks so much!!!
