Torrey Smith Wins Louis Goldstein Award

Last night Torrey Smith was joined by his mother, Monica Jenkins, and his grandmother, along with Coaches Friedgen, Franklin, Hull and Bankins, as he was honored by the Annapolis Touchdown Club at their 56th annual dinner. This award is given annually to the most outstanding player on the Terps football team. As you listen to this video you will see why Torry was an excellent choice based on his versatility and efficiency in every position he plays.
This evening also honored the MVP for the Naval Academy, Ross Popsipil, another outstanding young man. Coach Friedgen and Coach Ken Niumatalolo were given opportunities to speak after the awards were presented. They are both looking forward to the Navy-Maryland game on Labor Day, September 6th, 2010, at 4PM.

Football Banquet

In a lovely celebration for our departing seniors and recognition of outstanding performances, today's football banquet did not disappoint. It was wonderful to see many of our fans supporting our players, coaches, and their families in this tribute to the 2009 season. Tim Strachan, sitting in for Johnny Holliday, emceed and did a great job. We heard from Larry Grabenstein, Chairman of the MGN, thanking the MGNers for their devoted support and reminding folks to please continue. We heard from our AD, Debbie Yow, who also thanked the seniors and our fans.

The reception for seniors that preceded the banquet put our scrapbookers together with their seniors and families. Pary Harris coordinates this wonderful gift. Special thanks to the following MGN people who are paired with the player whose scrapbook they made:
