MGN Holds Town Hall Meeting

Coach Friedgen, Athletic Director Debbie Yow, and members of the MGN Executive Board met Wednesday night in the Glazer Auditorium of the Gosset Football Team House. About 30 MGN members came to express some opinions about the football booster organization. The meeting which began at 6PM was moderated by chairman, Larry Grabenstein, who opened up with a comment about the state of the economy and it's impact on everything including the MGN. He thanked people again for their generosity because without it our football program would be missing some of the essential elements needed to be a top program. Coach Friedgen echoed his sentiments and again expressed his appreciation to our loyal supporters.

One of the first comments was about MGN practices being closed. Coach Friedgen expressed his concern about information gathered at practice appearing on the internet that could be detrimental to our team. He further said that if MGN members would call ahead and leave their names so that they could check in at the practice field, he would consider opening practices up again.

Another comment was raised about using our volunteers in a productive manner. There had been some confusion about the way we organized events. We admitted some failings in this and would work at addressing it to encourage members to be used wisely as they are very valuable resources.

Communication was also a topic of conversation. The emphasis was that we need to reach out and touch our members in a more personal way and do it often but not overdo it. One way we will attempt to do this is with this blog which will create a forum for information and and ability to make comments so that concerns can be addressed in a timely fashion. This improved communication could also be used to let members know about upcoming events. We will also be featuring players responses to questions that you generate. Thought that might be an entertaining way to get to know our players in addition to the seniors we highlight on the main MGN page. Someone suggested having photos included in our communications. We would like to invite MGN members to send their photos to us with captions and member names, if applicable, showing our members participating in various aspects of the MGN experience. Send your photos to MGNfootball@gmail.com.

Terp Alley and logistics about T.A. were addressed next. We will look at ways to improve attendance and create more excitement particularly for students to come and enjoy the alley.

Larry drew the meeting to a close around 7:30PM. Members that were present seemed to appreciate the opportunity to air some views. We also hope that you will contact us through this venue or directly to the football office with your concerns.

  1. I am very excited about this new blog. It is something that I think will integrate us more as a family.

  2. It was great of AD Yow, Coach Friedgen, Chairman Grabenstein, and the MGN Executive Board to spend time holding this free wheeling meeting. The size of the turnout permitted lengthy questions and answers. Future turnout will most likely increase when the meeting greater publicity. I for one like the “cozy” atmosphere.

The idea of a brief video message from Coach before games would really help to personalize things for the membership.

Where can I learn more about a Business Membership?

This forum is another way to improve communications with and by the membership.

Why not challenge the members to come up with new ideas on raising additional funds for the program particularly during these difficult economic times.

    GO TERPS !!!
